Durango

I'm brokenhearted to post that Durango crossed the Bridge early this afternoon. He made it through the transfusion but took a horrible turn for the worse this morning. By the time I arrived there his temperature was over 105, his blood pressure had dropped to rock bottom and he was just so, so ill. I've been around a lot of dogs through the years and never have I seen a sicker animal in my life. There just wasn't a choice. I don't understand why it had to be like this but I'm thankful he's out of pain. Since he never really had "blog time" I wanted to share a few pictures from his days at home.
He liked to walk under Bear and sit.
One of my favorite pictures....Dot can be such a grump sometimes but she didn't mind at all.

We all loved you Little One, I just hope you knew it.

We are so sorry! We hoped for something better for all of you. You certainly did everything you could. Much more than many would or could do. The saddest part is that you had him such a short time, but at least he had time to know he was loved and part of a pack family.

Maryann, I'm so sad for you and the whole pack. Your compassion for Durango was just so amazing. I think it was Jen who said you are her hero for all the time and love you give to these furry ones. I suspect you are a hero for all us DWBers. At the very least, you are an amazing role model for humans and dogs alike. It's heartbreaking that Durango had to go through this, but there is not a better person in the whole of DWB land he could have been lucky enough to have by his side through it all. Hugs to all of you.

But we always try to find a positive side to things instead of dwelling on the negative. For Durango, he now lives in doggy heaven, where he can run free without any dangers or other obstacles along the way, and he can look down and care fur his loving family who tried their very best to give him the time of his life! We know fur sure that Durango knew you all loved him!

Maryann, I am so sorry to hear this. I have also hovered waiting to read the next update but fearing it would be sad. You are an angel on Earth to open your home and heart to animals in need. You go out of your way to be at a shelter to find somedog as sweet as Durango. I wish it could have been different for him. You gave him a chance when others did not and he knew he was home. I am so glad you got some pictures of him in his short time with you and the Brats. Thank you for sharing them. I know it breaks your heart to look at them. You are in my prayers.

Oh Maryann -
Words just can't even explain how sad & sorry we are for the loss of Durango...You loved him with all your heart & he knew that...During his short existance here on earth he was able to know love from you & the pack & was able to go to the bridge with friends on both sides..I know that Dakota & Thrawn are welcoming him & will look after him...maybe they wanted a little playmate as well...

I'm thankful he is now longer in pain..but I know pain 1000fold exists in your heart - to your very core. You did everything humanly & divinely imaginable...You are an angel here on earth Maryann - we all love you.

Maryann, I believe dogs have wondrous spirits. This wonderful spirit came here and was shown love by you and gave love back. I don't know what his lesson for you was in the big scheme of things, but believe there always is one.Sometimes the shortest lives have the biggest lessons, it seems. We're so sorry about everything you and Durango had to go through. My mom had a German Shepherd, Ilsa May, a long time ago and same thing, except the vet said there was nothing more he could do and sent her home. We know about the blood and stuff. Mom just locked herself in the bathroom with the vaporizer going and sat up for nights with her. She made it, but was never quite the same. You are such an angel for what you do with your babies. There's a special place in heaven for people like you. Durango will be there waiting for you at the bridge. I just know it.

Dear MaryAnn,

We have been away for more than a month with a broken computer & have been trying to read everybodys blog and just to yours. What a shock to read this post. The Mommy & I were sad when we read about Durango and are sorry we never had a chance to get to know him. But then we read about Thrawn and the Mommy started crying. We will miss seeing his beautiful face and his big heart.

The Mommy wants you to know that she is praying for you and she knows what she went trough when her Samantha died and now you are grieving for two. Please know we will never forget Thrawn and he will be always in our hearts.

The Mommy said she believes that Tharwn, Durango and all the others doggies we have loved & lost are playing with Samantha right now and sending their love and blessing right down to us at the Rainbow bridge.

Love Mona & the Mommy.
