Jenny the Elephant @ The Dallas Zoo

Photo: Jim Mahoney/DMN

Friends,
We want to ask for your help in supporting a movement to save Jenny the African Elephant who has lived at the Dallas Zoo for 22 years. You can read about her plight HERE on Mom's rescue blog. It's really a sad situation, she has suffered enough in her life and deserves to live the remainder in peace.

Thanks for lending a paw to help.

Love,
Tucker-Doodle, Bear, Samantha, Dot-Spot & Millie (and Mom who grew up seeing Jenny)

Thanks for the heads up about Jenny. I hope something is done to prevent her from going to Mexico and, instead, going to one of the two elephant sanctuaries in the U.S.

This is tough - one day away and so much to do. I don't even know anyone in Dallas. Elephants are majestic and Jenny deserves the peace of mind and understanding that she may only perhaps find at a sanctuary.

I feel sick.

Plea to help Jenny.
Sent to DMN today.

First I’d like to congratulate Dallas for recognizing that Jenny is not a proper fit for our zoo. After years of captivity, we have a chance to give Jenny a better life. She has been on display most of her adult life, and she is just reaching middle age. There are two highly regarded elephant sanctuaries in the U.S. The one with which I am familiar is in Tennessee.

At the elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, elephants live their lives accompanied by other elephants, and without serving mankind. Tennessee’s facility is an absolutely fabulous way to give back to zoo and circus elephants who have demonstrated the wonderful, caring nature of the species. Elephants roam in habitats close to their origins.

Dallas has the opportunity to do something wonderful by helping facilitate a move to a U.S. elephant sanctuary. Instead we are considering sending Jenny to a non-U.S. regulated site in Mexico where her fate is not nearly as bright.

With one decision we can make all the difference for young Jenny. We can show others the importance of rescuing and rehabilitating animals. We talk of sustainable living. Let’s show our Texas-sized compassion and work with one of the elephant sanctuaries in the U.S. to transfer Jenny.
