Walter News!!

We are happy to announce that Walter the Old English Sheepdog has found his forever home! (no, it's not with us!) Mom has been working with Critter Crossings, a rescue organization located in California. She "met" the founder, Julie, through our MySpace page a while back and they exchange bulletins about dogs in need all over the country.

When Julie learned about Walter she knew of a great home for him so she emailed Mom to talk about it. Come to find out it was THE PERFECT home for him, his new Mom is retired so she can be home with him all day, she loooooves alien Sheepdogs like him and she's been involved with rescue for a long time so can deal with any issues he has. In fact, she's on the Board of Directors for Critter Crossings. He will have a Sheepdog brother and a Cocker Spaniel sister plus plenty of foster friends coming through. You can't ask for more than that!

In case you haven't figured it out yet, we had a bit of a problem.

We're in Texas and he had to get to California...that's way over a thousand miles away. We thought he could probably hitchhike, but the humans didn't think so. His new Mom had a really nice man named Norm come to our house on Saturday morning to drive him all the way to his new house!!

That morning we were up bright and early waiting. Mom packed him a care bag (with some of OUR toys, hrrrmph), treats (also ours) and food (you guessed it). We hung around the front for a while waiting for Norm. (We look like stair steps in this pic!)
Mom kept taking pictures and hugging all over him, geeeez....we're sure if she abandons us to visit California for vacation she could probably visit him again. You see what we wake up to? It's not pretty...at least she put a hat on though. His ride showed up and we were all like "WHOA"!!! Walter got a WHOLE luxurious van to himself for the ride with great big windows to look out at the world. He hopped right in and settled on the couch in the back.Ok, we admit it. We were kinda sad to see his limo pull away...not as sad as the Humans but still. He wasn't so bad after all, especially for an Alien dog.He left here about 9:30 Saturday morning and arrived at 4 pm California time on Sunday afternoon. Norm said he spent more time watching out the windows than sleeping, they stopped every few hours for walks and to stretch out. We hope he loves his new family and doesn't forget about us too soon. His Mom is going to call him Oliver for Oliver Twist...she is from the same town as Charles Dickens and the saying "Please Sir, I want some more!" made her think of him. We think it's a pawsome name and hope he'll take to it fast.

We all want to send out a HUGENORMOUS thank you to Critter Crossings and Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund for helping Walter find his forever home. They are what true rescue organizations are all about, helping the animals who really need it regardless of breed, age, condition or temperament.

Yeah for Walter/Oliver! I'm so happy he found such a perfect furever home. He couldn't of wished for a better place to recover and get lots and lots of love. Maryann, you are to be applauded for all the work you do with the animals and the brats deserve extra treats for sharing their home, food and toys with less fortunate dogs like Walter. Please keep us up to date on Walter if his new family provides updates.

Your pal,
Kirby
