Dakota

It is with a broken heart I am posting to tell our friends that our dear baby boy Dakota had a heart attack and passed away at about 5:30 this morning. I'm thankful that he did not suffer, but the emptiness left behind is just devastating.

I will post more later - thank you to everyone that has been so supportive through his health issues and our new friends we have made through this blog.

oh.. I am so saddened to hear of this. He is now free from pain and I am sure will wear his silver harness with pride and joy. Mom and I will light a candle in his honor and memory tonight and will say a prayer for him and all of you.

This is such sad news and there are tears in my eyes right now! This helped mum when her previous baby passed:
If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call - come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down well-remembered paths, and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel, they shall not growl at him, nor resent his coming, for he belongs there. People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who hear no whimper, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden for them, and which is well worth the knowing. The one best place to bury a dog is in the heart of the master.

Maryann,
I am so so sorry to hear about Dakota. I know what a special bear Dakota "is", not was, because he will always live in so many hearts. I know the pain, and I wish I could make it better. Maybe he's met Astro by now. Running, very happy, and watching over you.

I hope the rest of the pack are ok and his absence isn't affecting them too badly.

I know it's cliche, but time helps. But he'll always be in our hearts.

BIG BIG hugs,
Jody
and the two insane whippets (the ones that used to love to chase Dakota as they all slid and crashed on the hardwood floors :) )

*crying* This is awful! I just signed in to check all my favorite Brats out...I can't believe Dakota is gone. Have you ever heard of the Rainbow Bridge?

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh Maryann, I am so very sorry for your loss!!! I cannot even tell you how sad it makes me that you are suffering. I understand your pain, as have experienced it myself just recently at the loss of my 17 year old kitty, and my 16 year old Siberian a year ago. My heart aches for you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sending hugs your way,
Holly and her mom Jan

All in our pack are sorry for Dakota's passing. We know what its like. We lost Tia at 5 years old to cancer. I saw that Nanook commented about the Rainbow Bridge, which always makes me cry but feel better at the same time. I'm sure that he knew he was loved and cherished and now he is at peace.

So So Sorry for your loss. He will still be with you. You'll feel his spirit when you need him.
You did all you could and you know he loved you. I lost my Cubby, a Mal/Shep 2 years ago and it does take time, and honestly, it is very hard, so it's okay to feel sad. I will keep you in our prayers.
