Anyone in DFW...or somewhere I can drive? (& Petsmart News)

This guy is currently incarcerated at the Irving, Texas shelter which is pretty full. I would love to take him in, but I have Millie as a foster right now so there's no way. If there is anyone out there interested or a rescue that will take him I'll do whatever I can to help. All the info I have is "45 lbs friendly boy..1 yr old..blue eyes".

There are a TON of great dogs at Irving right now, if anyone is interested I will do everything I can to help pull them out for you. Thanks for looking....Maryann

Sorry about the formatting on this, I just received it as a bulletin so wanted to post it. Petsmart has now banned "Bully" breeds and ANY DOG that LOOKS like a Bully breed from their hotels and doggie daycare. They are not basing this on temperament testing or individual assessments, it's across the boards and it's not right. I guess it's ok for their owners to spend their money there on the banned breeds though.

PETSMART BANS BULLY BREEDS FROM PET HOTELS AND DOGGIE DAY CAMP
Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2008 15:40:31 +0000

Here is some additional contact information.

To me, this is very
worrisome. It is just a step away from banning the listed breeds and
others from visiting the store and participating in training events.

RE: PetSMart. After having Teka for a weekend, I understand they are considering outlawing JRTs also. She was a real handful from what we understand. And no, I don't think the bully breed thing is right, but I do think there are other breeds just as troublesome. Pretty soon, they will be left with just Labs and Goldens. Maybe that is what they want.

Hope the big guy gets a new home real soon.. I have been in that situation and its dreadful :( Keeping all paws crossed for him, and how wonderful that you help out MaryAnn me and Mum admire you very much.

As for PetSmart.. well what a crappy attitude to have.. someone should point them in the direction of the Deed Not Breed website, its doggy racism.. I would be boycotting them .. GRRRRRRR

love n licks,

Oh no! We loved the doggie day camp at Petsmart in Hurst. They would say "STEVE AND KAT!!!" when we arrived. It was like we were Norm on Cheers.

Such a bootiful boy he is & all those poor dogs are also bootiful! I really hope they all will find new loving homes soon...

That's sad that PetSmart is banning bully breeds. So unfair but I guess it's for the safety of other dogs & people there...It's understandable but there are other breeds too that are aggressive.

Love licks,

Wow, he's a real handsome boy with beautiful blue eyes! If I could just get rid of all the stupid cats, I'd be glad to have have some of these guys at my house! Hee hee.

I hope they all find wonderful homes soon.

Since I am related to the Bully breeds - I am offended!!

And mom wanted to adopt a puppy soooo bad this week, but she says she has too many already. Hey wait a minute...

Oh, that is terrible! The thing that bothers me is that they even ban mixes that "have characteristics" of bully breeds or wolves. So if you have a mix and someone thinks it has a feature that looks like a bully breed or wolf, then it can't go. Ridiculous! Lots of people think I am a wolf because I am tall and lanky and bigger than the Husky breed standard!

That stinks! About a half of the dogs at the local shelter are bully mixes. Today my ma ape played with one who liked to rest her head on people shoulders like a baby. Sigh.

Ya know, I'm having a hard time blaming Petsmart for this one. First, I blame the owners that made the bully breeds, well ... bully breeds (by the way, many landlords here list Akitas and St. Bernards as part of their "banned dog" list). Second, I would almost bet that this decision was made by the insurance company that provides liability insurance to Petsmart more than by Petsmart itself.
