My Big Heartworm Day

Hi Everyone

Well, I'm home and I feel terrible. Mom picked me up from Dr. Bill's this afternoon and I'm pretty sick. I can't stand to be touched anywhere past my head/neck area and if you do I scream. LOUD. My back and hind end are super sore. :( They gave me some pills to make the pain go away (Maryann: Codeine) and they make me sleepy.

They set up my crate in the living room so I could hang out with everyone, here's Tucker testing it out for me. He's so nice. There is cushy stuff in the bottom so it looks pretty soft. When I got home I didn't feel like being around anyone so I went into the bedroom and got in my favorite spot, the closet. I'm posting this sad picture of me even though it shows what slop-pigs my people are.Mom's worried about me not wanting to eat anything so she went to the store and bought some stew meat. She said I needed to eat something with my pill but I wouldn't touch any of it at all. She even left it on the floor right in front of me, but I just couldn't.I really hope I feel better soon. I think I'm going to the office with Mom tomorrow so she can keep me close cause she's worried. I just hope the other Brats don't eat all of my stew meat before I feel better.

Love, Bear

PS from Maryann...He's pathetic and heartbreaking, absolutely no interest in anything and you can tell he feels miserable. If you even bump against his back lightly he yelps. I'm hoping he shows some interest in food soon since he's taking these pills. Dr. Bill said he'll be sore a couple days and hopefully then it will be better.

This was the first time he's been to see Dr. Bill and he seems to feel certain he's been beaten. He had a very bad reaction to the waterhose and it just makes me sick. His "racoon eyes" they think is an allergy issue and once he's better from this we'll try to figure that out. He thinks he's somewhere between 5-8 years old, a wide range but he could possibly be on the younger side and just not appear to be that way because of the life he's lead thus far. He agreed his coat is from his nutritional past and should be better as time goes. Angie seems to think maybe he has some Chesapeake Bay Retriever in him, as his coat is filling out (it's THICK) it appears he could. Either way, they both seemed to love him to death and think he's good for Tucker. I just want him to feel better. :(

Precious Bear,
I hope you feel better real soon...I felt so sad when I saw your picture. I know your MOM will take good care of you, and Tucker Doodle will keep an eye on you, too. Feel better soon, it breaks my heart to see you hurt.
Hang in there...it will get better when those nasty worms die. I know you have found your FOREVER HOME, HUH??? Looks like that to me.
Love you...

I started feeling sad, then REALLY mad, then sad again. Poor Bear. I try not to dwell on the past as his bad days are behind him.

Maryann, you are a godsend & this big boy is blessed to be with you. Try not to worry, let him rest a day or so...he'll eat when he's hungry. I always thought from the pics that he looked like a giant chocolate Lab...but Chessie may make sense. Does he have any curl in his coat?

Anyway..who cares? All paws crossed on Jackman Ave that he pulls thru treatment without a hitch! And an extra human saying prayers & all that good stuff for Big Bear.

Maryann,

While I've thought Bear was sent to you as a gift to him, to you and to your pack, I've also thought this since the first time you posted Bear: If you don't wish to keep him, I'll take him. Open heart and open arms. One of my boys has allergies. One of my boys was abused. One is just your average nutcase puppy. I know what I'd be getting into.

If, for whatever reason, you decide to rehome Bear I'm more than willing to add him to our family. If, for whatever reason, you need help with his expenses I will do what I can.

Such a brave and noble boy deserves love and peace in his life, I think. I know you can give him everything he needs but if you decide he'd do better in another home, consider mine.

Stay stong Bear. The Mom and I are thinking about you and the rest of the pack.

(special note from The Mom your Mom - Bless you Maryann! We had a Chocolate Lab when we brought Dakota home, so there's a special place in my heart for them. Thanks for sharing everything with us! Joni)

Bear---Aw. You made me tear up a little bit. I hope you get less sore soon and the worms in your heart go away (tell 'em to find their own house--this one's yours!). Feel better soon, buddy!

Bear, we are thinking about you. Andy didn't feel all that great after his heartworm treatments but he is so bouncy now, you would never know. Bear, you need to stay quiet but you need to eat too. Once your upset tummy goes away, you will have an appetite again.

Aww Bear - I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. It will get better though. My mom has known your mom for a lifetime - and she told me that you couldn't have a better mom. She told my dad you are one lucky Bear.

Hi Bear,
My heart is breaking for you right now. I'm so sorry you had such a terrible past. It just goes to show how incredible we dogs are that we can overcome that kind of abuse and still be wonderful pets for our family.

I'm a lab/Chessie mix, Bear. My coat is really thick and wavy on my back. Chessie mixes are the best! I hope you feel better real soon.

I wish you didn't have to go through this with Bear. His former people did so wrong by him. He is so fortunate that a good lady like you is making it possible for him to have the good life he deserves. God bless you and I hope Bear feels better in the next day or so.

Poor Bear! I'm sending lots of good doggy vibes and hugs your way! I have to save some for Mom though. They think she needs surgery! Feel better soon. It's so sad seeing you like that when you were doing so good. I'm glad Tucker is helping take care of you, too. He's such a good brother.
