Public Service Announcement

THIS is a chocolate Easter bunny.

THIS, while chocolate in color, is NOT so my guess this morning was wrong.
Aunt Jan's neighbors, Mike & Sharon, found this BIG boy in the park after the big storm we had this week. They took him in but had no luck locating his owners and he's come to be known as "Bear". Jan gave him a bath yesterday and called Mom to talk about him. One thing lead to another and Mom said he could live with us until he found his forever family. SO she brought him back here today and we each got to meet him outside while we were all on leashes. He seems really nice, I tried to get pretty close to him but the humans moved us apart "just in case". Sam kept trying to sniff his butt, but she was about 2 inches too short to reach so I bet that was frustrating. He didn't pay any attention to the girls which makes me think he's pretty cool. Thrawn didn't give him a second glance.

He has to go to the vet to get all checked out before he can play with us, I hope that happens fast. He's got some hanging things that Thrawn and I don't have and I heard Mom talking about some surgery. I hope he didn't hear her because he'd probably be pretty nervous and would want to run away. For now he's in the laundry room which is pretty homey, he has a crate if he wants to sleep in there too. I bet he'd rather sleep in our bed but Mom said we shouldn't share our bad habits.

Hope he likes playing with me. - Tucker

From the Dog-Maid, Maryann - This boy is a real sweetheart, laid back and so calm. He's really not in good shape at all. I'm not sure how long he has been on his own but his coat is in HORRIBLE condition. Very dry and coarse with dandruff, it's falling out quite a bit. He's got several areas that the fur is "worn down" like he's been kept on concrete and huge callouses on his elbows. He had an old, tight collar on (no tags) and once I really started rubbing his neck tonight I realized that he has scarring where it was around his neck so who knows how long it was like that. He's sensitive with his paws but they are pretty beat up so I'm guessing that's why and not so much his personality.

If he recently escaped then whoever had him should be beaten. He must have been eating absolute crap food with no care whatsoever. The shape he is in didn't happen overnight or even in a short period of time. He has flinched several times with quick movement towards his head which makes my blood boil. Hopefully he'll realize soon he will not be hurt again.

He's underweight and although you can't really tell from the pictures he's huge. If I put my hand on his head and stretch my pinky to one ear and my thumb to the other I can't reach his ears. I bought him a new collar and it's at the maximum 26" to fit around his neck. I can't imagine what a stunner he will be with a healthy coat and at a good weight. The fur on his neck is the best on his body and it's so thick and soft. I started him on Vit E tonight and if you guys have any other diet/supplement suggestions please share. He'd appreciate it. :)

The first pic I saw of him when he was at Mike & Sharon's had me thinking he was youngish, but I think he's much older than I originally thought. I'll be curious to hear what the dr says. As Tucker mentioned, he's not fixed so that's on this weeks agenda. He knows "sit" and will take a tiny treat very daintily so not to even touch my fingers. (The Brat Pack could maybe learn something)

Anyway - that's our big announcement. Hopefully he'll be back in the swing of things health wise shortly and be able to find a forever family. Quickly, before he uses some pathetic eye mojo on me. ;) - M

Tucker Doodle,
I hope that "Bear" will get to play with you really soon. I know your mom will take great care of making sure he gets the best of care and lots of love at your house. Hope you know how special your mom is...she loves you and your brothers and sisters so much. Give "Bear" a big kiss for me when you get a chance. Love, Aunt Jan

Ike's mom here: Yikes! Sounds like he's been living on Old Roy in some dingy kennel. You are a wonderful person for taking that scruffy lad in - I'm sure he'll be beautiful with your tender care (much better even with the tumors removed from between his legs).
Good luck with him.

Hi Tucker,
I think it's Dakota at work here.. He's sent you a new playmate so that you'll have a 'partner in crime'!! I also think Dakota's sent Bear to you/ your mum cos he knows how well he'd be cared for and loved! Bear looks real handsome even in his present state... Your mum's a real angel for taking him in.

Sounds like the slippery slope to foster-failure to me :) Our humans are always succumbing to that. Silly Billies!

Tucker,
Well, it sounds like even though the Easter Husky didn't bring you a husky, he still brought you a friend. I hope you get to play together soon!

I had a big brother when I first came to the house to live with The Mom and he was brown like that too. He was a good guy, really big, but awful friendly to a little Husky puppy. I miss him. I hope that Bear finds that furever home soon....... whereever that may be.

Tucker, teach Bear eye mojo NOW so he can stay to play with you all the time. Your mom is a wonderful person to take in an animal that so obviously needs love. We love human who believe in rescue. If our mom didn't rescue, there were be two more dachsies who would have gone away forever instead be in forever homes. Bear is a beautiful boy!

Maryann, Once again you come to the rescue. This guy is so adorable. I hope he wasn't on his own for too long, but I'm damn glad he got away from whoever had him. I hope you find the best home ever for him. Keep us posted on Bear's story!

Hey Tucker!
Labs are great to play with!! I know this because I'm a lab and I'm TONS of fun to play with! I hope he gets to be your new brother, but if not, I know your Mom will find him a good home. Tell your Mom that the Vitamin E she's doing for his fur should help a lot. If he's not in horrible health, that's all he should need. Once he starts getting fed a good diet and gets lots of love, his coat should get better. I never had to do the Vitamin E thing, but my coat wasn't in the best condition when my family came and rescued me. I was fed at the recue place, but I didn't eat a lot. Once I got some love from my new family, my coat started filling out better and I started eating better and now my coat is pretty.
Good luck with teaching Bear some eye mojo!

Dear Bear,

You have landed in doggie paradise. Tucker would make a great best friend. Start working that sad eyed puppy dog look big time. Whoever hurt you before won't ever get to do it again. You are SAFE and LOVED now.

Heal quick big fella!

Mom said to tell you all that you're a bad influence on her foster parent skills. ;)

Whoa! I can't believe you found a chocolate lab! (Don't eat him; we're not supposed to eat chocolate). I LOVE chocolate labs. To the point of obsession. My BEST friend is a chocolate lab named Mocha and I try to grab his tail and hold him close (don't tell Samantha) and so whenever I see a labby--I WANT HIM. You gotta keep him so I can vicariously eat, I mean have, a chocolate lab! Plus, I'm a sucker for a great rescue story and your house is chock fulla those!

WOW! That is exciting news!!! I hope that Bear will make a nice addition to your family - he sounds like a cool dude. I wonder if he knows how to blog?

Whoo Hoo!!!! Bear looks better than getting a Chocolate Bunny from the Easter Bunny that you can't even eat because it is chocolate! I can't wait to hear of your adventures with him, Tucker!!! Your mom is such a good mom for taking in Bear... and just wait and see, but he may work into her heart and stay with you forever :)
Hugs, Sitka
